Meet Our Team

In the Department of Radiation Oncology, our goal is to develop and implement treatment programs geared towards maximizing the chances of curing cancer while minimizing the radiation dose to normal organs, thus attempting to maintain your quality of life and preserve your normal organ function. Our radiation oncologists maintain strong academic, clinical and research interests, and a commitment to your well being. In addition all are Board of Radiology Certified Physicians.

Diane M Heaton, MD

Diane M. Heaton. M.D.

    Dr. Heaton completed medical school in 1988 at the University of lllinois. She compteted residency training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago in 1992. She was an Assistant Professor in the section of Radiation Oncology at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis until November 1993.
    She also held a position as a physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis for one and a half years. She was at St. John from 1994-2006. Dr. Heaton has been practicing at Hillcrest Medical Center since October 2006.
   
Josh Garren, MD

    Dr. Garren, an award winning, board-certified radiation oncologist, joins Hillcrest from the world-renowned Lahey Clinic in Boston.
    In Brown Medical School’s combined Program in Liberal Medical Education, to which he was accepted at age 17, Dr. Garren trained on the first radiosurgery system in New England. During his neurosurgery training at NYU Medical Center, he worked on the first radiosurgery system in New York.
    At the Lahey Clinic, Dr. Garren led the radiosurgery program for over eight years, and established the body radiosurgery program.
    In his teaching career, Dr. Garren has served as assistant clinical professor at Tufts Medical School for the past nine years, and as assistant clinical instructor at the State University of New York for five years prior.
    Dr. Garren has been voted one of Boston’s top doctors by his peers in each of the past four years. He was honored with the Patient Choice Award in 2011, and in 2012, he received the Compassionate Physician Award. Months prior to joining Oklahoma Cyberknife, Dr. Garren was named to the first US News and World Report list of top doctors in the United States.
    His research career began in the Brown University MD/PhD program. His research on minimizing the side effects of radiation has been presented internationally, and has been supported and recognized by the Defense Threat Response Agency, the Department of Defense, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the American Heart Association, the Sarnoff Society, the American Foundation for Aging Research, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturer’s Association, the Wise Grant, and numerous others.
    Dr. Garren’s inventions and innovations have included new approaches to protecting the heart, brain and skin, and have been recognized by the Young Innovator and Promising Investigator Awards from the State of New York.
    Dr. Garren’s interest in health care for the disadvantaged began at the Harvard/Brown MD/MPH program. He has worked with Doctors of the World and has received a fellowship from the Albert Schweitzer Foundation. The Doctor Lahey Society named Dr. Garren a Master Member in recognition of his philanthropic work.
    Dr. Garren speaks English, French and Russian. During his free time, he coaches his five budding young soccer stars, Daniel, Ariella, Maya, Jonathan and Shira Garren.
